Description
One would hardly believe the environment in which these poetic “Soirée pieces” (the original title) arose: Dresden in 1849 was marked by serious political unrest, the Schumann eventually forced to flee the country with Clara. None of this is apparent in the music of the idyllic nature of these three pieces, whose longing for harmony and privacy. Originally intended for the clarinet, already the first edition contained an alternative violin and cello part. Henle have subjected their editions with a thorough going critique and include a detailed comments section.
Includes piano fingering part by Hans-Martin Theopold and a supplementary violin part marked by Ernst Schliephake.
