Description
The Michael Aaron Piano Course Lesson books have been completely re-engraved, expanded (adding more definitions of musical terms and more musical pieces), updated (with modernized artwork), and re-edited (with less emphasis on fingerings and more on note-reading).
Grade Five is the opening to a veritable treasure chest of piano music. It is here that the many hours of previous practice have given the student the opportunity to unlatch the door to greater achievement and artistry. It is also here that the pupil’s aspirations may receive a much needed impetus or on the contrary prove to be a stumbling block on the road to further progress.
That is why it is so necessary that the musical material be chosen with much careful and studied thought. An over ambitious program may discourage and destroy the student’s initiative, while on the other hand a program that is inspiring and at the same time not too difficult will encourage and spur the pupil on to greater heights.
To help carry out this program, many original compositions, especially written for this book, were designed to develop ‘Technic Through Melody.’ For example ‘Mexican Dance’ while being an interesting piece of music, is also a splendid exercise for thirds and the strengthening of the hand. The original compositions also impart a modern and fresh flavour to the classical background of this course and help to achieve balance, variety and interest.
